Physical Therapy

Who is a modern athlete?

A modern athlete is someone who is active, and motivated to keep their body healthy and moving at it’s peak capacity. This includes everyone from professional athletes, aspiring professional athletes, to your weekend warriors. We want to help you perform at your highest level in whatever you do.

What should I expect from my initial evaluation?

Your time is our priority. Your session will take place on time, one- on – one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We will begin by discussing your symptoms in detail, as well as relevant medical history, and leave enough time for a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation. The Run Rx feels strongly that all systems of the body influence one another, so your evaluation will include a full body movement assessment to ensure we are addressing the root of your symptoms. This evaluation may include postural assessment, strength and range of motion testing, neurological screening, and a detailed assessment of your pain. Time will be spent discussing the findings of the exam, as well as expectations for your continued treatment. We believe deeply in the importance of patient education and will make sure you leave the session with better resources to understand your symptoms.

What should I expect from each follow-up session?

You can expect to spend 50 minutes, one – on – one with the Doctor of Physical Therapy. Your treatment may include manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization and manipulation, as well as therapeutic exercise and neuromuscular re-education from an expert in movement analysis

How long are sessions?

Each session is 50 minutes long. This includes both the initial evaluation, as well as all follow up treatment sessions.

Do you use equipment for Physical Therapy?

Yes! We firmly believe equipment is one of our best modalities for physical therapy because of the feedback it provides the patient, as well as the endless modifications it allows for, to ensure safe movement for different bodies.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different, but most patients see results within 5-8 sessions. We will be sure to discuss our expectations for treatment during your initial intake appointment.

Do you accept insurance?

-We are considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. We do not contract directly with any insurance companies, but can provide the appropriate invoices and documentation if you would like to pursue reimbursement directly with your insurance company. It is up to you to contact your insurance company to understand your out of network benefits. -We put together this work sheet to help you better understand your out of network benefits, and how to get reimbursed. -When compared to In-Network services, our Out-of-Network payment style can actually save money. There are many In-Network costs that add up: co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, as well as the time spent commuting and attending physical therapy several times a week for several months. Oftentimes, you will find our expert, personalized treatment style will get you better faster, saving both money and time. -You can use your health savings accounts (HSA) and flex savings accounts (FSA) to pay for treatment.

Gait Optimization/Personal Training

What to expect from a gait analysis?

Gait analyses are 75 minutes and are performed on the treadmill in the Run Rx studio. We will do a history including your goals, a functional movement assessment, full musculoskeletal examination and take videos of you on the treadmill. At the end, we will discuss what we find and go over your videos in detail. Within 1 week you will receive a detailed write up of your analysis as well as individualized pertinent recommendations for movement pattern correction, exercises and footwear, along with your videos.

What is Gait Optimization?

Following a comprehensive gait analysis, we will work together with over-treadmill live coaching to retrain and optimize your running gait to reduce risk of injury and improve performance. This is also reinforced with off-treadmill corrective exercises.

Why Gait Optimization?

Our aim is to correct faulty movement patterns that lead to injury guided by proven principles of motor learning. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as just isolated strengthening of certain muscles we find to be weak, you have to train the specific activity to change that motor pattern.

What to expect from a gait optimization session?

Sessions are 50 min and can include a mix of gait retraining as well as corrective exercise and strength training catered to you. This is guided by your goals as a runner or athlete. If our focus is correcting gait patterns we will spend a portion of time on the treadmill with live feedback. If you are not a runner, we will spend our training session on functional strength and conditioning to keep you healthy and performing at your best in whatever you want to do.

What type of runner do you work with?

All types! Whether you are just starting to run or a professional, we work with couch to 5k runners and marathoners alike. Whether you’re currently having pain, looking to prevent injury or enhance performance. We customize our programming to you to keep you healthy and performing across the lifespan.

Do you only see runners?

Of course not! In fact, Gabby was a 3 sport athlete, both playing and coaching soccer, basketball and lacrosse so loves training all athletes of various ages and levels. She has also spent many years in the general personal training world. We will do a movement analysis and detailed assessment of needs for your sport to deliver a customized training session

What should I bring?

For a gait analysis or gait optimization we ask that you wear shorts so we can visualize your entire lower extremity. For your initial evaluation please bring your current running shoes and any alternate shoes or previous shoes you have trained in.

Do you offer group classes?

Currently we are offering individual sessions and partner training. Partner training is for non-gait retraining only and is a good cost-effective way to train with a friend or teammate! We hope to add small group training soon.

Virtual

What should I expect from my telehealth physical therapy initial evaluation?

Your time is our priority. Your session will take place on time, one- on – one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Prior to your session, you will be emailed the virtual intake forms. Be sure to complete these prior to the start of the session. You will also be emailed the link to a secure virtual meeting space using HIPAA compliant Google Meets platform ahead of time. Try to log on a few minutes early, and check our FAQ on how to maximize these sessions. Time will be spent discussing the findings of the exam, as well as expectations for your continued treatment. We will establish a home program to get you started on your first day. We believe deeply in the importance of patient education and will make sure you leave the session with better resources to understand your symptoms.

Who can use telehealth physical therapy services?

Due to licensing regulations, you must reside in the state of Massachusetts to qualify for telehealth physical therapy sessions with Dr. Goshtigian. However, our virtual personal training is available to anyone, anywhere.

How long are your telehealth physical therapy sessions?

Each telehealth physical therapy session is 50 minutes long. This allows us ample time to review any changes in status, update your home program, and go over any questions you may have.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different, but most patients see results within 5-8 sessions. We will be sure to discuss our expectations for treatment during your initial intake appointment.

What should I have prepared for telehealth or virtual fitness?

You should prepare a workspace on the ground large enough to accommodate a yoga mat. If you do not have a yoga mat, you can always use a towel or blanket. Additionally, prepare any small equipment you have, or would like to use including but not limited to foam rollers, therabands, small weights or exercise balls. Have water and a small towel nearby if you need it. You will also need an internet connection, and working device with camera and microphone capabilities.

How can I make the most of my telehealth or virtual fitness sessions?

Make sure that you have a working camera, and microphone on your device, and log on a few minutes early. We want to maximize our time together, and minimize the time spent on technical difficulties. If possible, we recommend using two different camera angles perpendicular to one another to provide the best feedback on your form. You can do so by opening up the virtual session on two different devices (ie, your phone & laptop) and setting them up perpendicular to one another. If you have a large open room, or lots of background noise, we recommend you use headphones to improve sound quality on both ends. It is also helpful to prepare your workspace ahead of time with any equipment you may have at home.

Do you take insurance?  Does insurance cover telehealth?

    1. We are considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. We do not contract directly with any insurance companies, but can provide the appropriate invoices and documentation if you would like to pursue reimbursement directly with your insurance company. It is up to you to contact your insurance company to understand your out of network benefits.
    2. When compared to In-Network services, our Out-of-Network payment style can actually save money. There are many In-Network costs that add up: co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, as well as the time spent commuting and attending physical therapy several times a week for several months. Oftentimes, you will find our expert, personalized treatment style will get you better faster, saving both money and time.
    3. You can use your health savings accounts (HAS) and flex savings accounts (FSA) to pay for treatment.
    4. The rules and regulations regarding telehealth coverage are changing every day. We recommend you call your insurance company ahead of time to verify any telehealth benefits you may have. Please use our worksheet HERE to help guide you through the reimbursement process.

I have Pilates equipment at home, can we use this?

Absolutely! When signing up for telehealth, or virtual pilates instruction, leave me a note describing what equipment you have (ie, reformer, pilates chair, magic circle), so we can prepare to use it during the session.

Can you really give live feedback during a virtual session?

Yes, absolutely! We have had great success teaching in the virtual realm, and feel it provides a very similar experience to in person training. We are able to best visualize your form using two separate camera angles perpendicular to one another (see FAQ on “getting the most” out of your sessions).

I am not tech savvy, will this still work for me?

If you are concerned about the technical set up, please contact us to walk you through it. We are happy to arrange a phone call ahead of time to walk you step by step through the set up of a virtual session, and make sure that you are prepared to hit the ground running. We’ve had a lot of practice with virtual sessions, and can troubleshoot most problems by now!
